SPA
Treat your fur baby to a day at the Spa!
My name is Rachel Fawkes, I am a devoted dog Mom and proud Auntie.
I grew up washing and caring for my childhood dogs. As I went to college in Kansas City, I became a bather to test the waters for grooming and I was hooked! I decided to pursue my dream and went to grooming school at Petropolis Grooming Academy in Chesterfield, MO. I learned about dog handling and how they feed off the emotions of those around them, especially their groomer. As I have groomed in various shops and settings, I began to see the need for a different kind of grooming.
That was when Foxy K9 was born, to provide the grooming service I would want and trust for my own dogs. I believe with a level head and gentle hand, your fur baby and I can develop a relationship of trust and a stress free groom. At the end of 2022 we moved from 5th street to my home. I find it has enhanced the calm and relaxing grooming experience, now your dog and I start the appointment in the yard and ends waiting on my couch.
Double Coated Dogs
We have some information here for the proud owners of a double coated dog. You are always welcome here. I am a proud owner of two beautiful Australian Shepherds and a Whippet mix. I understand the ups and downs of these wonderful coated dogs.
On the plus side: they're soft, they get that majestic flowing in the wind look, they look athletic (usually are), they don't require brushing every day, and they have a certain elegance about them. On the down side: They shed EVERYWHERE, and they can get overheated.
Always a Good Day for a Walk
- Foxy K9 understands that each dog is different and requires a customized grooming experience. No two dogs are alike. Different stages of life and breeds have different needs and communication styles.
- Godendoodles have differnet coat requirements than Shih Tzus.
- Australian and German Shepherds have differnt communication style than Labrador and Golder Retrievers.
- 6 month old puppies require a different appointment than a 13 year old senior dog.
- A puppy's very first appointment is totally different experience than a seasoned pro's.
- I am passionate about what I do, therefore I take continuing education seriously. So I stay updated on new tools and techniques for my clients.
Frequently Asked Questions
What vaccinations do I need?
I require proof of Rabies, Bordetella, and Distemper
Do I Come Inside?
I meet you either at your car or the front door. However, you are always more than welcome to come inside and see the grooming area.
Will my dog be muzzled?
I do not use muzzles, not because I believe them to be inhumane, but there are other tools that allow me to keep myself and the dogs safer and less stressed. I use grooming hammocks and Elizabethan collars, or what might be known as the "cone".
How much will it cost?
Costs depend on the size, coat condition, and behavior of the dog, so the price varies. What if I'm late?
So we run on time, we do ask you to be to your appointment on time, if you are more than 15 minutes late we may have to cancel your appointment to keep us on track for our other appointments.
Are you accepting new clients?
I am currently accepting new hair cut dogs under 35 lbs, new bath dogs under 50 lbs, all puppies under 5 months, and new nail trim appointments. How often should my dog's nails be trimmed?
Generally recommend once a month, it does depend some on your dog's age and activity level. Once a month is a good fit for most dogs. How often should my dog be groomed?
It depends on the breed of the dog, but a 4-6 week appointment is recommended for most dogs. For hair cut dogs this keeps them clean and detangled and for shedding breeds this helps keep their nails and hair under control. What if I need to cancel my appointment?
I completely understand that life happens and unexpected issues arise and I do my best to accommodate everyone’s needs. However, I work on a tight schedule and am directly impacted when there is a no-show or late cancellation. To keep the operation running efficiently, it is required to give a two business day cancellation notice, this allows time to fill your spot. If notice is not given a $30 fee may be charged. Will my dog have the same groomer each time?
Yes, I (Rachel) groom every dog.
